A Couple of Afternoons in Colonial Williamsburg

My  family and I recently took a couple of day-trips to the lovely area of Colonial Williamsburg, and we all really enjoyed it! Despite the fact that we only live about half an hour away from Williamsburg, we hardly ever visit the actual colonial part of it. Well, that's something we are hopefully going to try and change, as it was really fun travelling back in time to 18th century America for an afternoon, just walking around and visiting the different shops and buildings. (And I'm sure it would be even more enjoyable once the weather cools down--walking around in 90 degree heat and humidity can be rather miserable!)

I took quite a few pictures on both days that we went to Colonial Williamsburg, and I wanted to share some of my favorites on here. I'll keep it short, so hopefully it won't be too boring! :)

I took this picture at the Barnes and Noble in Merchant's Square. It's such a neat bookstore! It's a two-story, with the kids' section and a Starbucks upstairs. My parents were sweet and bought me a beautiful copy of Emma that I had been eyeing while we were there. :)

One of the gorgeous gardens that we passed by... :)

This church building is the original from 1715!

My  sister Sophie in her adorable new hat! Isn't she just the cutest? She actually asked me to put this picture on here, haha. :D

Yet another lovely garden! This is the from the second day we spent in Williamsburg. Isn't it beautiful?

The Governor's Palace!

A view from one of the rooms inside. I really liked the green paint, although I'm not sure I would paint my bedroom that color, haha!

Colonial Williamsburg does a wonderful job at making history come to life, from the lively way the reenactors describe Revolutionary War events, to the costumes they wear. (I would love to work there just so I could wear the gorgeous dresses, haha!) And I just love how picturesque everything is. The beautiful summer flowers and greenery, as well as the eighteenth-century architecture, make for some lovely photos. :D

If you ever get the chance to visit Colonial Williamsburg, I highly recommend it! It's a wonderful place for sightseeing, especially for those who love history, as it really does feel as though you've taken a little step back in time. :)

Have you ever visited Colonial Williamsburg?
If so, what was your favorite thing about it?

Have a lovely day!
Molly

  4. I LOVE Colonial Williamsburg! I've been going there since about 1993, and it's one of my favorite places on earth. That's so wonderful that you live so close! We live about 2 hours away, and try to get there a couple times a year. Go after Thanksgiving when it's all decked out for Christmas!

    1. Ooh yes, Colonial Williamsburg is beautiful at Christmas! Especially at nighttime, when the Christmas lights are all lit up. Last year they had an outdoor ice skating rink set up in the Merchant Square area, which was really neat! I'd love to do that this Christmas. :) How neat that you live close to Williamsburg, too!

    2. Yes! We spent a couple of Thanksgiving weekends there recently, and that skating rink last year was so tempting!
