Oh, The First Snowfall of the Winter...

Well, here in Virginia, that is! Snowy weather came to us a bit earlier this winter than usual, and boy, did it deliver. I think we had about eight inches of snow by the time it stopped snowing yesterday, and it looked like a true winter wonderland outside! The ground, cars, houses, street, everything, was covered in a blanket of pure white snow, and it couldn't have looked more beautiful.

Snowy days and hot chocolate go perfectly hand in hand, especially when one is drinking out of a Jane Austen mug. I got this as a gift for Christmas last year. Isn't it awesome?!
Oh, how I love snow days. I still find it exciting to wake up in the morning and look out the window to see a wintry world of white. It makes me feel like a little kid again! And I love seeing my younger sisters' enthusiasm as they run around the house, excitedly asking, "Can we go outside?! Can we go outside?!" While part of me sort of just wants to stay in and enjoy looking at the snow, what would a snow day be without actually going out in it, at least for a little? So my brother and I tag along, and despite the bitterly cold wind blowing in my face and my fingers and toes going numb, I'm glad I didn't stay indoors.

Because I love hearing the sound of powdery, fresh fallen snow crunching beneath my feet, with snowflakes falling softly all around me. I love how quiet, still, and peaceful everything seems. (And I love going back inside afterwards and warming myself up with hot chocolate, because let's be real, I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather!)

I've always liked what my dad has often said about snow: the way that it covers everything in pure white and makes even the bare trees look beautiful is similar to how Jesus' precious blood cleanses us from our sins and makes us "as white as snow." (Isaiah 1:18) Isn't that such a lovely comparison? :)

And just for fun, here's one of my favorite songs from White Christmas, all about snow! I especially love the line where Rosemary Clooney sings, "I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow." So funny! :)
I hope you've enjoyed this random, snow-appreciation post! Now I'm off to just relax with my family and maybe watch a movie or TV show. That is, after all, what one does on a snow day, is it not? ;) (That's another thing I love about snow days: having an excuse to just hang around the house and do nothing!)
Has it snowed yet this winter where you live?
Molly
"Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." -Isaiah 1:18

  4. Ah, yes. Hot cocoa after an afternoon's romp in the snow is the best!! <3

Your dad's comment is so true. And it really is a beautiful comparison. :)

We got a nice snowfall on Saturday, so it's starting to feel more like winter now.

I tagged you over at my blog if you're interested. If you don't feel like doing it, that's perfectly all right. I just wanted to give you the option. :)

Oh awesome! Snow definitely makes it seem more like winter; it makes the cold somewhat worthwhile. :)
Ooh, that sounds like fun! I'll try and get around to filling it out soon.
Thanks for your comment, Miss March!

  5. Yes!!! We got our first snow a few days ago (Friday night, I believe) and oh, it is beautiful. (It's mostly gone now, though, thanks to above-freezing temperatures and some rain.) And the mug!!! Love it!!!
I love this post. You have such a way with words.

    1. Same here! Yesterday we still had quite a bit of snow on the ground, and today it's almost completely gone because of rain and warmer weather.
      Thanks! :)

    1. Thanks! Yeah, the other day there was still a lot of snow left, and today it's all gone and it's seventy degrees out! Virginia weather can be so unpredictable. :)
Ha, I know, right? They do say it an awful lot. :P
